The first lady of the Nassarawa state, Mairo Al-Makura, provided the freedom of no less than 70 prisoners of Lafian prison.
Apparently, he did so by paying monetary penalties for offenses.
Ms. Al-Makura, represented by former Secretary of State Nasarawa, Hajja Zainab Ahmed, said prisoners were long in prison.
He advises them not to return to the crime or to keep the bad friends.
She said: "I am very glad to be here to testify to the release of 70 prisoners, whose fines have already been paid, from the Lafian prison.
"I have confirmed from the prison authorities that the prisoners are reformed and ready to be released into a larger society".
She, however, invited members of society to accept and empower prisoners and provide them with all the necessary support to enable them to live without a crime.
One of the former inmates, 25-year-old Abdullahi Musa, said he was captured for armed robbery.
Also, 21-year-old Michael Marcus said he spent four months in jail for engaging in robbery while 23-year-old Abdulraman Abubakar said he was being shot for theft of N400,000.
Each of the former prisoners got N5,000 of the First Ladies for home transport. He also donated 10 bags of rice, five gallons of peanut oil, five liters of palm oil and cardboard snacks to five prisons in the state. ...
