A storm carrying strong winds shattered from the roof and demolished trees in Romania on Sunday, killing eight people and hurting dozens more, officials and witnesses said.
With storms reaching almost 100 km / h, the storm struck the area around the western part of Timisoara before heading north towards Ukraine.
Most of the victims were out when the winds appeared. One man was hit by a fallen tree and the other was a poster. Two children were in hospital in critical condition.
The Interior Ministry reported that 67 people were injured in an unexpected storm.
"Trees and roofs have been torn apart, trucks have been moved, water and electricity have been cut off," said Timisoara's mayor Nicolae Rob for the Digi 24 television channel.
"We were not warned about this. The weather report just called for rain," he added.
Teodora Cumpanasu of the Romanian National Meteorological Agency, classifies the storm as "a rare intensity" and "unexpected".
Especially Cumpanas has blamed the abnormal, long-lasting accumulation of hot air that stagnates in the atmosphere. Temperature in Romania was above 30 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
The storm killed at least five people around Timisoara before traveling 400 kilometers north and hit other areas on the road.
"Everything happened very quickly," said Romanian Interior Minister Carmen Dan.
The Romanian National Agency for Weather Agents has issued warnings about strong winds and rain storms for Western areas.
Emergency reagents have urged people to sit indoors, disconnect household appliances, and park in areas that are not close to trees or lines.id You ❤ ❤ this post?
