Employees of banking and insurance industry under the auspices of the National Alliance of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees withdrew from the country's planned strike at the helm of the United Labor Union.
The association said in Sunday's statement that there were key issues with financial services, related industries and the economy in general, and as such, closing down the sector was not an option.
The statement, signed by the new president, NUBIFIE, Abdulrasheed Lukman, reads, in part: "The union has just come out of the delegation's conference and has emerged a new leadership, there are a number of questions to ponder attention on what is happening in our industry. This critical period of our economic life is not an option.
"The congressional session did not speak or ratify any industrial action, so we split NUBIFIE from the planned ULC action. The link between NUBIFIE and ULC was done from the context of the proceedings and the constitution of our great unions and congresses at the session and resolved to return NUBIFIE on its original membership, the NLC, as contained in the union's constitution. "
Lukman said that after the development, the association directed its members to banks and insurance companies to remove any opposite guidelines.
The head of NUBIFIE therefore claimed that the association would not take part in any planned industrial action called the ULC.
"The process of dealing with industrial activity is well defined by the laws of the country and the rules of engagement," he added
