The Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) has reportedly cooperated with the National Security Advisers Office (ONSA) to stop hate speech in social media. Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Engr. Umar Garba Danbatta said this in Calabar during the opening of a two-day workshop on the use of ICT and sustainability for the South-South area on Wednesday, organized by the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) unit under NCC. Presented by Strategy and Corporate Operations of the Universal Service Provider, Kebel Nwankwo, Danbatt said NCC will ensure that the cyber space is remedied so as not to endanger the peace of the country. "There is a law on cybercrime conducted between the NCC and the National Security Adviser Office, which it manages later. "There are several things people want, but if they are not in law or the law, nothing can be done," said NCC's chief. "We need to ensure that people get information, not limited, but that people need self-regulation for social media activities. "People should be aware of what they publish, should not be hate speech, and then they should take responsibility for what they put on the net," he said. Danbatta explained that his commission is currently implementing the eight-point strategy with a strategic vision from 2015 to 2020, which points to promoting innovation, investment, competition and consumer empowerment "and at the top of today's and future communications platforms." He said the workshop would enable participants to communicate with the USPF to identify sustainable solutions for two key projects identified as the Community Resource Center (CRC) and the Center for Schooling Skills (SKC), pointing out it is intended to develop its capacity. "Everyone should have an opportunity to participate and no one should be excluded from the benefits offered by the information society," he added
