A 9-year-old girl died on Thursday and 25 other people were rescued after a migrant ship was taken off the coast of Greece, a Greek coastguard said.
Searching for more immigrants who may have been on a small inflatable boat that has left Turkey and sunk from the Greek island of Kastelorizo in the southeast Aegean Sea is under way.
The girl left the Frontex patrol boat from the EU border service, but she died at a hospital in Kasteloriz, a coastal guard.
Twenty-five people rescued were found on the rocky coast of the island, which managed to swim.
No information has been published regarding the nationality of those on board.
In 2015, about one million people took risky sea routes to cross the Mediterranean to Europe, mainly to Greece from Turkey through the Aegean Sea.
Thousands of people died at a dangerous crossing. Responding to international pressures, Turkey has tightened its maritime borders and dropped the smuggling ring of smuggling as part of the 2016 agreement with the EU.
The number of migrants crossing Aegean has since declined.
