VJ Adams Makes His Lead Actor Debut in The OAP, a Thriller Inspired by Real-Life Events

Popular media personality VJ Adams Ibrahim is stepping into a new chapter of his career as the lead actor in The OAP, an upcoming Nigerian cinematic drama inspired by real-life events and set for release in cinemas nationwide.

Known for his work as a television host and radio personality, VJ Adams takes on the role of Olaolu Cole, a charismatic and principled on-air personality whose life changes dramatically after asking what appears to be a simple question during his radio show. What begins as a routine broadcast quickly spirals into a tense 24-hour race involving power, greed, survival, and unexpected consequences.

At the heart of the story are wealthy businessmen Chief Gyan and Chief Smith, played by veteran actor Antar Laniyan, who become obsessed with finding the answer to the radio question after placing a high-stakes Independence Day wager. Their pursuit sets off a chain of events that draws in people from different walks of life, including Sikiru, played by Frank Donga, and Lillian, portrayed by Joy Nice, whose search for the prize money unexpectedly leads them to love.

Beyond its suspense-filled plot, The OAP explores the influence of the media on society and examines themes of integrity, truth, ethics, and the ripple effect of words spoken on public platforms. The film presents a compelling look at how one broadcast can impact lives across different social and economic backgrounds.

Speaking about his feature film debut, VJ Adams described the project as a meaningful milestone in his career, saying, "My movie debut... It's only right it tells a true story."

The production boasts an impressive ensemble cast that includes Antar Laniyan, Yewande Lawal, Rotimi Salami, Frank Donga, Liquorose, Joy Nice, and several other familiar faces from Nollywood, with media personality Illrymz making a special cameo appearance.

Rotimi Salami also praised VJ Adams' performance, teasing audiences with what they should expect from the film. "VJ Adams is the main badass murderer on this one. He was terrific. The synergy between himself and I on the set was very awesome. Wait to see the stunt I pulled in the movie—you will laugh, cry, vex, and still laugh again."

Written, directed, and produced by Quam Ololade Balogun of QS9 Multimedia, The OAP marks the filmmaker's first feature-length production after working on several short films.

With its blend of suspense, social commentary, romance, and drama, The OAP is positioning itself as one of Nollywood's anticipated releases, promising audiences a story that entertains while prompting conversations about the power and responsibility of the media.

The Synopsis

The movie is inspired by a real live events and follows the story of Olaolu Cole (VJ Adams) a charismatic, suave, and intelligent popular OAP in Lagos who believes he always wants to stand for the truth as he navigates through an epic and extremely intense 24 hours of his life. Olaolu Cole asked a question he found in a magazine (in his late father’s house) on his radio show and got more than he bargained for. Chief Gyan and Chief Smith (Antar Laniyan) are very rich and insane gamblers. They heard Olaolu over the radio when he asked the question and decided to place a very big bet on it to celebrate Independence Day which made them deployed different tactics in getting the answer before the next day. Sikiru(Frank Donga) and Lillian(Joy Nice), who lives in the ghetto too are searching for the answer, because they want the price money. They went through different struggles to try to get the answer, where they later found love instead.

The film explores the effects media has on people, in different strata of the society. It promotes integrity and good work ethics.

The movie also features Nollywood veteran actor Antar Laniyan, alongside other actors, such as popular Tinsel Actor, Yewande Lawal, the AMVCA winner for Best supporting actor, Rotimi Salami, the popular comedian ‘Frank Donga’ Idowu, and the famous video vixen Roseline ‘Liquor rose’ Afije, Joy Nice amongst other amazing casts like Adebayo Ogundele,  Kennedy Adetayo Kunle, Elizabeth Fagbemiro, Damilola Olugbode, Julius, Adetutu Salami, Bilal Olorunsanu. The popular OAP Bardia ‘Illrymz’ also made a cameo appearance in the movie.

The On Air Personality (OAP) was written, directed and produced by Quam Ololade Balogun of QS9 MUTIMEDIA. After he has worked on some short films, ‘The OAP’ is his first feature film and is definitely a must watch……..
