The actress, 40, revealed that the controversy significantly affected her career, forcing her to step back from acting while she dealt with the emotional and professional fallout.
She described the period as deeply painful and challenging. In the recently shared video, Lawal explained that she deliberately avoided granting interviews after the incident, stating that actors are often expected to be seen and not heard.
She noted that the support of her friends and family helped her endure the backlash and public judgment.
Speaking further, the actress alleged that her former lover threatened her and blamed her for the leaked video. According to her, the relationship became strained after she expressed her intention to leave, and the private footage surfaced online shortly afterward.
Lawal claimed the man accused her of refusing to post him on her social media pages, a demand she questioned, explaining that she does not publicly share romantic partners online.
She further alleged that he told her that if he could not have her, no one else would.
The actress also disclosed that the experience has changed her outlook on life, noting that she plans to move differently going forward.
She added that the worst had already happened, and while she had previously lived her life quietly “like a married woman,” she intends to adopt a new approach.
Lawal appealed to the public for understanding and restraint in judging her.
She said:
“To me, entertainers should be seen and not heard, and as a thespian, no matter what is happening in your reality, the show must always go on.
There is a narrative that I posted this intimate part of my life. I refuse to allow this narrative to stick with me forever, and most importantly, I have had a few girls reach out to me who were in similar situations, and they keep telling me that they will off themselves.
Some of them are being threatened, and I need them to understand that this shame is not theirs to carry, nor is it their fault. You never really know somebody until you threaten to leave them.
In my own case, he told me it was my fault, that this happened because I refused to post about him on my social media. Have I ever posted anyone on my socials? He said that if he couldn’t have me, then nobody else would ever want me again.
I have always had this ability to overlook things because I have always had such fun characters. I am flipping the switch. I have decided to live a virtuous life.
The worst has already happened to me. Posting thirst traps is nothing; it is different from my reality. I have always lived my life like a married woman whose husband was out.I am flipping the switch and looking forward to an entirely new character and adventure, and I hope you’ll go on this adventure with me and not judge me a bit too much”.
When the video first hit the internet, Moyo was mercilessly dragged with many slamming her for being gullible to allow a man to record a tape of her, despite the series of leaked tapes among celebrities.
Issuing a public statement, the movie star revealed that the partner in the video was her ex-fiancé, and threatened legal action, stating that the video was released without her permission, thereby violating her privacy and trust.
Shedding more light on it, the Nollywood star revealed that she only had sex twice in 2022 one of which birth the leaked tape. She admitted that she agreed to film the tape with him because he doesn’t reside in Nigeria and besides, they were already planning to get married.
Some of her colleagues like Mary Njoku, Uche Maduagwu, Prince Eke, and others reacted to the tape.
