#jaiyeorie Tony Award winner #LaChanze is calling out the Powers That Be involved with the newest hit musical “The Color Purple”.

She says they owe her a check!

LaChanze played the central character Celie Harris Johnson in the 2005 Broadway musical adaptation of The Color Purple, and it was then that she was involved in work shopping Celie’s famous song “I Am Here” and changed enough of it with her own customization.

It’s part of the reason she won a Tony for her role. Now, she says she has never received royalties for her musical work, which is why she opted out of appearing on the press tour for the new version of the movie musical.
