In May 2022, Oliver Bwalya was found guilty of murder.
On Wednesday, he received a sentence.
On June 2, Oluwatomipe Jeremiah Makanjuola, one of the other defendants, entered a plea of guilty to murder.
On July 13, Makanjuola will be sentenced.
On August 29, James Edward Birtcher III is due in court to face one count of murder.
On July 25, Adonis Zakeydaryll Harris is due in court to face one count of murder.
BACKGROUND:
Around 11:40 p.m. on March 3, South Bend Police were called to N. Elmer Street for a ShotSpotter alert and a call about a man down.
When they arrived, they found Diaz lying on the walkway near the house. He was transported to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
Three spent casings and cash, along with some counterfeit bills, were recovered from the scene.
Diaz was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
