Issa Rae Reveals City Girls’ Real-Life Glow Up & Double Standards In The Music Industry Inspired ‘Rap Sh!t’ At L.A. PremiereIssa Rae discusses what prompted her to create the new HBO Max series "Rap Sh!t," which focuses on female hip hop artists.
It was a no-brainer for Issa to collaborate with City Girls, one of the hottest female rappers right now.
She also discussed how the double standards in hip hop pushed her to release this project sooner rather than later.

We're already obsessed with Issa Rae's new HBO Max series "Rap Sh!t," which premieres in a week.

Following the completion of "Insecure" on the west coast, the EMMY and Golden Globe nominee traveled to the 305 to collaborate with the City Girls on the executive production of a brand new HBO Max comedy series named "Rap Sh!t."And, happily, audiences will get a hilarious look at what female rap artists go through when they try to break into the industry.

Shawna (played by comedienne Aida Osman) and Mia ("Love & Hip Hop: Miami" star KaMillion), two estranged high school pals, create a rap trio in Miami in the HBO Max series.
It seems wonderful at first, but the ladies have quite different ideas about how the group should appear and play.
Shawna aspires to make more socially conscious rap, defying business norms.
Meanwhile, Mia is a single mother eager to go to any length to get to the bag.
She's obsessed with her paper, especially since she has a four-year-old kid to look after.
Issa Rae and showrunner Syreeta Singleton (who wrote for "Insecure") executive produce "Rap Sh!t," as do Montrel McKay for HOORAE, Jonathan Berry and Dave Becky for 3 Arts Entertainment, and Deniese Davis.
Issa also penned the opening episode and collaborated with Syreeta on the last episode.

Co-executive producers include hip hop duo Yung Miami and JT of City Girls, as well as Kevin "Coach K" Lee and Pierre "P" Thomas for Quality Control Films and Sara Rastogi for HOORAE.
In addition, music supervision for the series is handled by Issa's audio content company Raedio.
Nice!
