United Nations has responded to a viral video of a couple having sex in one of their official cars in Israel, saying it has launched an investigation to know the identities of those involved.
In a viral video filmed on HaYarkon Street, a major tel aviv thoroughfare, a woman wearing a red dress is seen having sex with a man in the back seat of a white SUV in a move with UN markings.
The driver and another man were seen in front of the vehicle.
The men are believed to have been caught on camera by members of a peace organization in Israel, and the vehicle was assigned to the UN Ceasefire Monitoring Organisation (UNTSO).
Stéphane Dujarric, a spokesman for the UN secretary general, said they were 'shocked and deeply disturbed' by the scandalous clip.
He described the behaviour as "ablious" and further found that an investigation into the matter had begun
.
Dujarric said;
We are shocked and deeply disturbed by what is seen on the video. The behavior seen in it is abhorrent and goes against everything that we stand for and have been working to achieve in terms of fighting misconduct by UN staff.He added;
We became aware of the video a little bit more than two days ago and our colleagues in the Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) were immediately activated.
Their investigation I know is moving very quickly. We know the location of the incident and the identification of individuals in the video, who are likely assigned to the UNTSO, is close to being completed.The UN has strict policies against sexual misconduct by its staff members, and workers may be disciplined or possibly banned from peacekeeping operations if they are found to be in breach of the rules, BBC reports.
As part of the UN’s commitment to transparency, the UN will provide updates on the conclusion of the investigation, and any further action.
The inter-governmental organization has been plagued with allegations of sexual misconduct by its peacekeepers and other staff in recent years.
