Jamila Malafa was awarded Navy Commodore by the Nigerian Navy. She is the first commodore woman from the north in the history of the Nigerian Navy.
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice-Admiral Henry Babalola, Vice-Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas, said that by her discipline, resilience and commitment to the Nigerian navy, she was eminently qualified to be the first female Commodore North. He also revealed that the Navy has exhibited his seminars, courses and trainings that have prepared him for this position by praying for the Almighty God to help him.
He further said she has joined a very few crew of generals adding that there are very few women that will attain this rank in the Nigerian military. “It is a thing of pride and attaining this height, it is worth celebrating,” he said.
While giving her vote of thanks, Commodore Malafa assured the Nigerian Navy of her total commitment.
