A court awarded a schoolgirl 4 million Kenyan shillings ($ 40,000, 30,000 pounds) after being strip-searched by the police, who were looking for drugs in Kenya in 2015.
Subsequently, photos of the young woman, allegedly taken by the police, were then broadcast on social networks. The court declared that the rights of the 18-year-old student had been violated.
Standard reports that the schoolgirl was photographed half-naked during the incident and the images leaked on social media.
The schoolgirl then filed a lawsuit with a child rights group, Cradle, claiming that the half-naked photos humiliated her and asked her for $ 70,000 in compensation.
The student was with 44 other people, all of whom were arrested in a central Nyeri mall after the police intercepted the school bus they were traveling in and found students smoking marijuana and having sexual relations.
He added that the schoolgirl pled guilty to possession of marijuana and was held in police custody for 18 months.
