Officials of the Lagos State Work Group have won 163 commercial motorcycles, popularly known as the hostages and arrested 29 drivers at Mile 2 and the FESTAC area of Lagos. Yinka Egbeyemi, chairman of the working group, reveals that there were a number of complaints by the public about the criminal activities undertaken by some of these motorcycle operators. He said residents were reluctant to grab bags, phones, wallets, and jewelries around these areas at night. Egbeyemi has called on citizens to give up on patronage of commercial motorcyclists on limited routes, as anyone arrested will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. The chairman, however, said the police commissioner, Edgal Imohimi, instructed 29 incarcerated motorcycle operators to immediately go to court for prosecution. Welcoming the agency's efforts to eradicate the activities of motorcycle operators on limited routes, the concerned citizen, Alhaji Lukumon Lateef, praised the agency to respond promptly to their complaints. He said that people living around the 2nd Rainbow area and Mile 2 Estate by Festac could no longer sleep with their eyes closed for criminal activities carried out by some of the motorcycle operators. He said that most commercial motorcycle operators were illegal immigrants from neighboring West African countries who could not communicate in English.
