Airtel Sponsors 2014 Headies Award + Endorses Best Recording of the Year Category

Leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria, will sponsor this year’s edition of the Headies awards, also endorsing the Best Recording of the Year Category. The Awards, which is in its 9th consecutive edition, recognizes annually, the distinguished achievements of artistes and entertainers in the industry. This year’s event is scheduled to hold at the Convention Centre of Eko Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos. Speaking on the sponsorship, Maurice Newa, Airtel Nigeria’s Chief Commercial Officer said the Telco is proud to be at the forefront of nurturing talents in Nigeria and connecting millions of youth across the country through their passion points. “Our support for Headies Awards is founded on our resolve to empower the youth by supporting credible platforms that will assist them express their creativity and also give them opportunities to meet their aspirations. Headies Awards has been described as the rallying point for the identification, grooming, recognition and rewarding of Nigerian music talent and we are delighted to be associated with the organisers”, he said.
Newa also pointed out that as a youth-centric organization which recognizes music as one of the strongest passion points for the young and young at heart, Airtel is committed to partnering with reputable platforms that will empower the youth and enable them realize their dreams. The urban music and hip culture award has been described as Nigeria’s most consistent and most credible music honours platform. Several artistes including Dbanj, Tu Face, Wizkid, Davido and P Square have won awards in different categories since 2005 when it was launched. There are twenty-one categories this year, with Phyno and KCEE leading the nominees’ list with five nominations each. The Award categories include Producer of the Year, Song of the Year, Best African Artiste, Artiste of the Year, Album of the Year and Best Music Video.
