Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has found herself at the centre of fresh social media criticism after revisiting her previous TikTok experience, shortly after Funke Akindele announced a partnership with Facebook to promote her upcoming movie, The Four: No One Fights Alone.
The timing of Toyin’s post triggered comparisons between the actresses, with some social media users questioning why she chose that moment to highlight her previous TikTok engagement. Others defended her, arguing that she was simply celebrating an earlier professional experience while building anticipation for her next film.
On Friday, October 30, 2026, Toyin shared a throwback post connected to TikTok’s #WhatToWatch Cinema Experience, which took place in December 2025 during the promotional period for her film, Oversabi Aunty.
In her caption, she wrote:
“Throwback to when TikTok collaborated with OVERSABI AUNTY! It was such a beautiful experience, and I’m looking forward to more amazing collaborations as we gear up for BESTIE. More magic, more creativity and bigger moments ahead!”
She also used the opportunity to promote Bestie, her forthcoming movie scheduled for December 16, 2026.
The post came a day after Funke announced her partnership with Facebook for The Four: No One Fights Alone.
The collaboration will cover promotional activities surrounding the film's London world premiere and Lagos homecoming premiere, including behind-the-scenes content and access to premiere experiences. Meta, Facebook's parent company, publicly confirmed the arrangement.
Funke described the partnership as an opportunity to take her film to a wider international audience, attracting congratulatory messages from fans and colleagues.
Following Funke's announcement, some fans began comparing the actresses' promotional strategies. When Toyin subsequently revisited her TikTok experience, critics interpreted the timing as an attempt to remind audiences that she had also engaged with a major social media platform for film promotion.
However, there is an important distinction between the two activities.
A report by Premium Times found that Toyin's photograph came from TikTok's #WhatToWatch Cinema Experience, an industry event attended by filmmakers, actors and content creators. Although she spoke about using TikTok to promote films, the newspaper found no evidence that the event itself represented a formal promotional partnership with Oversabi Aunty.
Funke's Facebook arrangement, by contrast, was publicly confirmed by Meta as a partnership specifically covering promotional activities for The Four.
The reactions were divided. Some users criticised Toyin for bringing up the old TikTok experience so soon after Funke's announcement, while others accused fans of turning ordinary promotional activities into unnecessary competition.
Supporters also argued that Toyin should be allowed to celebrate her previous achievements without every post being interpreted through the lens of her relationship with another actress.
The discussion has once again revived the long-running comparisons between the two Nollywood stars, whose films and promotional campaigns frequently attract attention from competing fan communities.
Two Filmmakers Preparing for December Releases
Beyond the online debate, both actresses are preparing for major cinema releases.
Funke Akindele's The Four: No One Fights Alone is scheduled for December 11, 2026, while Toyin Abraham's Bestie is expected in cinemas on December 16.
With both films entering the December cinema conversation, their promotional campaigns are likely to attract further attention.
But perhaps the more interesting question is why two actresses promoting their respective projects continue to have their professional milestones measured against each other.
