Toddler Dangling From 12th-Floor Window Saved by Neighbours Using Stool in China

A group of residents and security workers in Zhangping, Fujian Province, China, raced to save a three-year-old girl who was left dangling from a 12th-floor apartment window after becoming trapped in a safety grille.

The frightening incident happened at about 7:48 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2026, according to reports from Chinese local media cited by international outlets.

Video footage shared online shows the toddler's body hanging outside the high-rise while her head was trapped between the metal bars of the window grille.

With the child at serious risk of falling, residents and security personnel quickly mobilised.

Residents used a stool to support the child

Security guards and property-management workers entered the apartment directly below the child's home.

Two rescuers then leaned out of the lower-floor window and positioned a stool underneath the toddler, attempting to support her body while emergency responders made their way to the building.

The improvised support was crucial because the rescuers could not directly reach the girl from the apartment below.

The child remained trapped by the window grille while firefighters were called to the scene.

Firefighters eventually freed the girl

When firefighters arrived, they had to gain access to the apartment where the toddler was trapped.

They forced open the apartment door and reached the girl, eventually freeing her from the metal grille and bringing her back inside safely.

She was subsequently taken to hospital for a medical examination and was reported to have escaped serious injury.

How the toddler ended up outside the window

Reports said the girl's mother had left the apartment to buy groceries after believing the child was asleep, while her father was at work.

The toddler apparently woke up, climbed through the window's safety grille and became trapped when her head became caught between the metal bars.

A resident reportedly noticed the child and alerted others through the residential complex's group chat, prompting the rapid response from neighbours and building personnel.

A rescue that depended on quick thinking

The incident has attracted widespread attention because of the extraordinary sight of residents using an ordinary household stool as an emergency support while waiting for professional rescuers.

The stool could not eliminate the danger, but it gave the child additional support during the critical period before firefighters could reach her.

The successful rescue also highlighted how quickly neighbours and building staff responded when they realised the toddler was in immediate danger.

Jaiyeorie — this is why it matters

A three-year-old child was suspended from the 12th floor, but a group of strangers did not simply stand and watch.

They looked for a way to keep her supported until trained rescuers could reach her.

The story is a reminder that in an emergency, quick thinking, community awareness and immediate action can buy precious time.

It is also a sobering reminder of the particular risks high-rise homes can present to young children. Windows, balconies and safety grilles that appear protective can become dangerous if a child can climb through or become trapped in them.

In this case, the outcome was ultimately a safe one — because people noticed, acted and kept trying until professional help arrived.
