Lady accuses police officers of allegedly intimidating, handcuffing and extorting over ₦300,000 from her in Victoria Island, Lagos

A Nigerian lady has accused police officers of allegedly intimidating, handcuffing and allegedly collecting over ₦300,000 from her during an encounter in Victoria Island, Lagos.

In a video circulating online, the visibly distressed lady was seen crying by the roadside at night as she recounted her experience.

According to her, the officers stopped and detained her while she was returning from the beach. She claimed they handcuffed her and later dropped her off in Victoria Island.

She also alleged that she attempted to record the encounter, but the video was not saved.

The lady said she was forced to borrow money and reached out to several friends, asking them to send ₦20,000 each, but none came through for her.

She added that her mother, with whom she had been having disagreements, was the only person who eventually sent her money.

It is a reminder that relationships can be complicated, and that the person we are currently struggling with may still be willing to help when we are in trouble.
However, her account remains an allegation. Independent confirmation of the incident, the officers' identities and the alleged payment has not been established in the information provided.

When you are in trouble, should you judge relationships by who is usually around you — or by who actually shows up when you need help?
