FRSC has confirmed that fraudulent messages are circulating, including one directing motorists to frscgov.top/ng, which the agency says has no affiliation with it. The fake websites are designed to look like FRSC portals and can request card and other sensitive information.
Eva Ibiam reportedly said she clicked one of the links after receiving a message about an alleged traffic offence and subsequently lost about ₦364,574.36. Her account is particularly striking because she had recently been stopped by road safety officers, making the fraudulent message appear more believable.
The scam works because it doesn't arrive looking like an obvious scam. It arrives wrapped in something motorists already recognise — a traffic offence, a fine and the authority of FRSC. That familiarity can make people lower their guard before checking the link.
