There was a lot to celebrate at Cross Da Boss’ wedding, but one particular moment between the groom and his mother has managed to steal a different kind of attention.
Cross Da Boss, whose real name is Ikechukwu Sunday Cross Okonkwo, married Chinonso Onyebuchi on April 25, 2026, in a white wedding at St. Gabriel Chaplaincy, Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, Durumi, Abuja. Cross rose to fame through Big Brother Naija, while Chinonso is a finance professional and entrepreneur.
The wedding attracted celebrities, friends and family, but one moment has particularly caught social media's attention: Cross kissing his mother on the lips during the celebration. Some saw it as a tender mother-son moment, while others questioned whether the gesture was too intimate for a grown man.
During their mother-and-son dance, Cross shared a kiss with his mum on the lips. A video of the moment quickly made its way around social media, with Nigerians divided over what they had just watched.
Some saw nothing more than a son showing affection to his mother. Others felt the kiss crossed a cultural boundary.
Interestingly, this isn't the first time Cross' relationship with his mother has attracted attention for the same reason. A similar kiss during their reunion in 2022 also sparked a debate online.
So perhaps the real conversation isn't simply “Why did Cross kiss his mum?”
It's where do we, as Nigerians, draw the line between family affection and what feels culturally inappropriate?
If this was your brother, husband or son, would you see it as a sweet mother-son moment — or would you be uncomfortable with the kiss?
