Veteran Nollywood actor Lanre Adediwura has appealed to Nigerians and members of the Yoruba movie industry to show compassion and support for actor Baba Ijesha following his release from prison.
Speaking in a recent video that has been circulating on social media, Adediwura urged colleagues and fans not to abandon Baba Ijesha as he attempts to rebuild his life. According to the actor, everyone deserves an opportunity for rehabilitation and a chance to move forward after serving a prison sentence.
Adediwura's remarks have generated mixed reactions online. While some social media users agreed that former inmates should be given an opportunity to reintegrate into society, others argued that support should not overshadow the seriousness of the offences for which Baba Ijesha was convicted.
Baba Ijesha, whose real name is Olanrewaju Omiyinka, was convicted in 2022 over child sexual assault-related offences and later completed his prison term before regaining his freedom. Since his release, discussions about his possible return to acting have continued to divide public opinion.
Despite the differing views, Adediwura maintained that forgiveness, rehabilitation, and support are important values, urging people to allow Baba Ijesha the opportunity to rebuild his future.
