Mide Martins Revisits Her Youthful Days in Throwback Photo: “Nigbati Enu Gbe”; Yetunde Barnabas, Afeez Owo others react

To celebrate Throwback Thursday, Afeez Owo’s wife shared an epic photo of herself from her youthful days. 

Nollywood actress Mide Martins has taken her fans back in time with a throwback photo from her younger days, and even she had something to say about the version of herself staring back from the picture.

Sharing the old photograph for Throwback Thursday, the actress jokingly described it as a classic example of “Nigbati Enu Gbe” — roughly referring to a time when “the mouth was dry” or when things were not exactly looking as rosy as they are today.

“It is well, sha. This is a typical example of ‘Nigbati Enu Gbe,’” Mide captioned the throwback.

The picture quickly attracted reactions from fellow Nollywood stars and fans, with many choosing to focus on just how young she looked.

Her husband, actor and filmmaker Afeez Owo, however, offered some context, revealing that the photograph was from one of his movie projects, Gbere Meje.

“Ha. This is one of my movies (Gbere Meje), which is coming bigger,” he wrote.

Actress Shola Kosoko also came to Mide’s defence, suggesting that there was nothing particularly dramatic about the old photograph.

“Well, it’s a movie set, right? And if it’s not, you were simply young there. That’s all I see,” she commented.

Other reactions were considerably more playful, with Glitters Touch Makeover calling her a “fine girl,” while other colleagues including Yetunde Barnabas and Toyosi Adesanya joined the conversation.

There is something refreshing about celebrities being willing to laugh at their own old photographs.

The picture may show a younger Mide Martins, but her caption does the real work. Instead of presenting the past as perfectly glamorous, she looked back at herself with humour — essentially saying, “We have come a long way.”

And perhaps that is what makes throwbacks so entertaining: we don't just see how someone looked before fame. We get to see how they now interpret the person they used to be.
