Ciara Stuns in TUBO’s Couture Tribute to African Womanhood, Blending Heritage and Modernity-OLORISUPERGAL MEDIA

Ciara is bringing African couture to the global spotlight in a striking TUBO creation inspired by the Ijaw Iria ceremony. Designed by Sandrah Tubobereni, the look draws from a traditional rite of passage associated with womanhood, identity and becoming.

Rather than reproducing the ceremony literally, Tubo translates its visual language into contemporary couture, using intricate beadwork, a structured bodice and a fluid silhouette. The result is a look that feels distinctly African while remaining at home on an international fashion stage. For Tubo, the significance goes beyond dressing a global superstar. The designer has consistently positioned fashion as a way of preserving and reinterpreting African cultural narratives, allowing heritage to exist alongside modern luxury.

Tubobereni described creating the Ciara look as “Divine Alignment,” explaining that the Iria ceremony represents values of womanhood, identity and pride that are central to the TUBO aesthetic. The beadwork is particularly striking, transforming a traditional visual reference into something sculptural and couture.

It is another example of how African designers are taking cultural references that have long existed within their communities and presenting them to a global audience through fashion.

When African heritage becomes couture, which Nigerian culture or tradition would you love to see reimagined on a global red carpet?
