No Going Back’ - Omoyele Sowore insists on October 1 Protest
Former presidential candidate, journalist, Omoyele Sowore, has given an update on the planned October 1 Hunger protest.
Taking
to X on Monday, September 30, Sowore insisted that protest will be held
across the country, despite kicks by the Federal Government and
warnings by the Nigerian Police Force.
The nationwide protest will hold at the Eagles Square Abuja, according to Sowore.
“The
protests will hold across all parts of Nigeria because the scale of the
devastation, hunger, insecurity, and hardship that this government has
unleashed on Nigerians is national. I will emphasise again that these
will be peaceful protests, as they’ve always been.“The last protests
were peaceful, yet the government met the protesters with batons and
bullets.“We will not be deterred, though. Our only weapon is truth, and
no amount of force or violence will prevent us from speaking truth to
power,” he said.
“Between the last protest just two months ago
and now, petrol prices have risen by almost N300 per litre. The naira
has further devalued, and prices have increased in the market. Bandits
have taken over and killed off entire communities. Floods are
devastating our cities. “Under these circumstances, can anyone be
surprised that the Nigerian people want to voice their displeasure with
this government’s failure to address the issues affecting them? “We
are prepared to come out to protest. We are determined to do so
peacefully. I can assure you that thousands of voices will be raised in
protest on October 1. “The pangs of hunger and groans of pain of the
Nigerian people will not be drowned out by the government,” he said
during an interview session shared on his handle.”
The protest organizers in Lagos say they plan to start their march at the Ikeja Under Bridge at 7:30 am. ✍️“feel free to disagree in the comments

#jaiyeorie Patrick Doyle condemns the popular phrase “I am a chosen,” frequently used by members of the Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Movement.
His comments come amidst online content creators and bloggers frequently using the phrase “I am a chosen” in a mocking manner.
In
a Facebook post, Doyle questioned the appropriateness of associating
the phrase with Christianity, claiming it elevates the church’s General
Overseer (GO), Pastor Lazarus Muoka above Jesus Christ.
In
his strongly worded statement, the media personality expressed his
concern over the interpretation of the phrase, arguing that it does not
reflect Christian values.
In a lengthy post, he wrote:
“The
phrase “I am a chosen” as espoused by members of the religious sect
that goes by that nomenclature “Chosen” should never be associated with
the Body of Christ. The members of this sect do not have Jesus in mind
when they chant the phrase.
“Their
adoration is unequivocally directed at a man, their GO, and the sect he
founded. It doesn’t mention or imply Jesus in any shape or form
whatsoever. To infer that the nonsensical phrase is remotely connected
to giving glory to the name or person of our Saviour Jesus Christ is to
make a mockery of our faith..
“Bloggers and content
makers having a field day with the phrase are in no way mocking the
Church of God but the sect in question and it’s founder. Members of the
clergy who cite mockery of that phrase as representing an aspersion
against the faith are gravely wrong.
“Indeed, their
admonition represents an endorsement of the cult like sect that has
relegated Jesus to second place and their GO to a place of preeminence
over our Lord and Saviour. This is not to encourage bloggers to mock the
church, but this particular episode doesn’t amount to mocking
Christianity.”
