Interior designer Ewemade Eva turned 40, but this was not the kind of milestone birthday designed to quietly pass. The celebration leaned fully into 17th-century Marie Antoinette-themed masquerade ball—the corsetry, the grandeur, the theatrical styling, the masquerade-ball atmosphere. It was elaborate by design, almost as though the birthday wasn't simply marking an age but creating a world around it.
Marie Antoinette is perhaps one of the most recognisable visual symbols of royalty, excess, fashion and spectacle. So when a 40th birthday adopts that language, the theme becomes part of the message.Eva wasn't just celebrating 40.That Rolls-Royce Cullinan she bought for herself is adding pressure!
The event was held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos and combined her 40th birthday with the launch of the Eva Ewemade Foundation. The celebration featured an elaborate Marie Antoinette-inspired masquerade ball, an art auction that reportedly raised ₦25 million for women entrepreneurs in Edo State.
There was also a raffle, where OJ Posharella won a Range Rover Sport, while D'banj, Dr Sid and others provided entertainment. The notable attendees included Alex Ekubo, Odion Ighalo, D’banj, Dr Sid, AY Makun, Pretty Mike of Lagos, Dabota Lawson, Vicky Heldan,Yvonne Nwosu, Tania Omotayo, Ola Winfunke, Joseph Ezeokafor, Esther Giadom, Ose Ibahwoh, Francis Udochukwu, Garen Ejovi, Efomo Wendy, Eriye Onagoruwa, Evbade Ohiowele, Amaka Uzoho, Amara and Obi, Sonia Orobor, Bridget Pondi, Obi Iyiegbu, Angela Myrseth, Ogechi Nkwuji, Chioma Nwakor, Chief Osagie, Mrs Rabi Ikuku, Mrs Philo Obrienmeh, Ehizogie Ogbebor, Eva’s mother Mrs Julie Ogbebor, and Billy and Clara Osemwengie.
Alongside the birthday festivities came the launch of the Eva Ewemade Foundation, shifting the occasion from a purely personal milestone into something with an institutional dimension.
That contrast makes the story more interesting. This is Spectacle on one side. Purpose on the other. The party says look at this chapter.
The foundation says build something from it.
And perhaps that is the more revealing part of the celebration.
Milestone birthdays have increasingly become more than private occasions. They can become visual statements about identity, achievement, social circles, taste, influence and the kind of legacy a person wants associated with a particular chapter.
Ewemade 40 is no longer simply
“How do I celebrate?”
It became, “What do I want this chapter to represent?”
Eva chose royalty, fashion, theatre and philanthropy as the vocabulary.
The interesting part isn't whether the celebration was extravagant. The real story of Eva's 40th wasn't Marie Antoinette party. It was the construction of a 40-year-old identity in public.
#JaiyeWhyItMatters: A birthday can be a party. It can also be positioning.
