Sara Milliken, 23 was crowned as the new Miss
Alabama, beating dozens of other contestants to the coveted crown.
Describing her win, she said “This is a dream that has been 8 years in
the making for me. I cannot believe I get to live it and share it with
you…so much more to come.” Upon being named the new pageant queen, the
influencer, said she was subjected to a barrage of comments online about
her weight. She told local media outlet WKRG:
“Even something that you
type over a screen can have a lasting impression on people.Even though
I’m not at that point, it can lead people to do some very dark things to
themselves.”Despite the comments, she has vowed to continue
representing women of all body types and those in the plus size
community and will go on to compete in the National American Miss
competition this November in Florida. Milliken, who said her goal was to
just make the top 10, has inspirational words for young women after her
win.“No matter what your body looks like, no matter where you come
from, you can do anything you set your mind to,” Milliken said.
“Just
making it to top 10 was my goal, ya know, I could leave the weekend
saying I was better than I was the year before, and it’s all about
