#Benzino has responded to his daughter #CoiLeray’s interview with @angiemartinez, where she opened up about their complicated relationship and said she felt her father was envious of her success.
Benzino did not take the comments lightly. He strongly denied the accusation, defending the role he played in raising and supporting Coi while accusing her of pushing what he called a “false narrative” about their relationship. He also had words for Angie Martinez, questioning her handling of the conversation.
The father-daughter relationship has been turbulent for years, with both Coi and Benzino publicly addressing their differences—and the latest exchange has once again pushed their private family conflict into the spotlight.
The relationship between rapper Benzino and his daughter, Coi Leray, has repeatedly moved between reconciliation and public conflict. In November 2023, their family tensions resurfaced after Leray discussed their relationship on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast and said she felt her father struggled with her success.
Benzino responded publicly—and his reaction quickly turned the conversation into another chapter of their complicated relationship.
During her conversation with Angie Martinez, Leray was asked about how Benzino responded to her growing success.
She explained:
“At first, it was rocky, because I felt like he couldn’t handle my success.”
Leray then said she believed his reaction came from envy, while emphasizing that she understood he was human.
“I felt like it did come from an envious place, which is okay ’cause he’s human and it’s fine.”
She also suggested that her father still felt he had more to accomplish himself.
“He’s one of those people that feels like, ‘Yo, I still have a story to tell.’”
The comments were particularly sensitive because Coi and Benzino had already experienced years of public disagreements.
Benzino did not agree with his daughter’s characterization of their relationship.
In an Instagram post responding to the interview, he questioned how he could possibly be envious of someone he said he had raised and supported.
“How tf can I be envious towards someone I RAISED, NUTURED, PROVIDED FOR, INFLUENCED AND LOVE VERY DEARLY???”
He accused Coi of promoting what he described as a false version of his role as her father.
“I’m tired of her pushing a false narrative about who I am and what I’ve done as a father.”
He also expressed frustration that their disagreements were being discussed publicly.
“In my 40 years in Hip-Hop I’ve never ever seen an artist DOG their parents out the way Coi does and it’s embarrassing and sad.”
Benzino also directed criticism at Angie Martinez, accusing her of being “manipulative and messy” because of his existing relationship with the interviewer.
He Later Said Their Relationship Might Be “Beyond Repair”
The following day, Benzino posted another message that took a more emotional tone.
“As much as we want to have hope, some things are just beyond repair, and I’m sure God’s ok with that.”
He accompanied the message with thoughts about protecting his peace:
“Peace of mind is so priceless; too much stress and chaos will end your existence. Inner peace is essential to your survival.”
That post suggested that the dispute had affected him beyond the immediate argument.
Coi subsequently addressed the fallout on Instagram Live.
She said she was frustrated that, instead of simply celebrating her achievements, her father would allegedly use conversations about her to defend himself publicly.
“It just seems like every single time … instead of you congratulating me and be happy for me, you want to go online and try to use me to prove yourself to these people and this industry.”
She added:
“I don’t want to be your clout kid.”
Coi said she would rather the two address their issues privately.
“I rather us … again … just hit me, offline.”
She also indicated that she did not want to continue discussing their relationship publicly.
The November 2023 dispute did not happen in isolation.
2021 — “No More Parties”
One of the most visible public clashes came after Coi released “No More Parties.” In the song, she rapped:
“My daddy let me down, but I promise you, I won’t let up.”
The lyrics triggered a public back-and-forth between father and daughter.
2022 — Signs of Reconciliation
The relationship appeared to improve in 2022. Coi later spoke about wanting to repair things with her father and credited advice she had received from Nicki Minaj about reconciliation.
By July 2023, there appeared to be genuine movement toward reconciliation.
Benzino attended Coi’s Rolling Loud Miami performance and publicly praised her afterward.
He described watching her perform as “surreal” and said:
“I love her. Seeing her like that ... You can say I’m biased, but honestly, like, I don’t see nobody else doing that. She’s amazing, man.”
Coi also framed their connection through their shared hip-hop legacy, saying she was carrying on that legacy.
Only months after that apparent reconciliation, Coi's Angie Martinez interview reopened the wounds.
Her description of feeling that Benzino could not handle her success was followed by his forceful denial.
The disagreement therefore wasn't simply about whether a father was proud of his daughter's career. It exposed two very different interpretations of the same relationship: Coi was describing how his behavior felt to her, while Benzino was defending what he believed his actions and sacrifices as a father proved.
What makes the Benzino-Coi Leray saga particularly complicated is that both have publicly expressed love for each other while simultaneously describing deep hurt.
Benzino has repeatedly rejected the idea that he does not support his daughter. He previously said being called a “deadbeat dad” hurt him deeply, insisting:
“I love my daughter. ... I don’t want to be known as that. I don’t care what people think, but that hurt me. That’s my daughter, I raised her.”
At another point, he called accusations that he was jealous of Coi’s career “evil,” saying his love for her was enormous.
Coi, meanwhile, has spoken about wanting to eventually reach a place of forgiveness and reconciliation with her father, inspired in part by Rihanna's relationship with her own father.
And that may be the heart of their story: this isn't a simple case of a father who doesn't love his daughter or a daughter who doesn't appreciate her father. It is a relationship where love, pride, disappointment, success, identity and old wounds have repeatedly collided in public.
The question isn't simply “Is Benzino jealous of Coi?”
It's whether a father and daughter can stop defending their versions of the past long enough to build a relationship that feels safe and validating to both of them.
