60 and Fabulous AF! Vanessa Williams Says Getting Older Is a Privilege

Vanessa Williams is embracing a new chapter of life with confidence, grace and absolutely no apologies.

The actress and singer celebrated her milestone 60th birthday in March 2023 with a 10-day family getaway to the Bahamas before sitting down with Jennifer Hudson to reflect on what she has learned about growing older.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Williams described ageing as “a privilege”, explaining that reaching her 60s has brought a different kind of freedom.

“It’s a privilege. There’s a sense of ease. The older you get, the less you care about what everybody else has to say."

Williams went on to explain that getting older has helped her become more comfortable with herself. “You’re living in your own glory. You accept yourself, you give yourself grace,” she said.

For the former Miss America, that confidence represents a major shift from the pressure many people experience in their 20s and 30s. She explained that younger people can become consumed with trying to meet expectations, please others and become everything they think they are supposed to be.

Now, Williams says she has reached a place where she can appreciate herself without constantly seeking outside approval.

“There is a sense of satisfaction and ease that you get the older you get, and I am embracing that and loving it,” she added.

And honestly? We love that energy.

Vanessa Williams is proving that getting older doesn't have to mean shrinking yourself. Sometimes, it means finally becoming comfortable enough to live life on your own terms.

60 looks good on her!

Her perspective offers a refreshing reminder that growing older does not have to mean losing relevance, beauty or ambition. For Williams, it means having enough life experience to stop measuring yourself through everyone else’s expectations.

This is the real luxury of getting older — finally becoming comfortable enough with yourself to stop asking the world for permission to be who you are.
