Top Gun: 36 years after the original 1986 masterpiece was released, Maverick has smashed yet another record.
Tom Cruise reprised his role in the sequel, which has now earned $700 million in North America, demonstrating once more that Cruise is still one of Hollywood's top stars despite being in the industry for 40 years.
According to Variety, "Top Gun: Maverick" has eclipsed Black Panther to become one of only six films to ever hit that mark at the domestic box office.
'Top Gun: Maverick' has surpassed 'Black Panther' to become the fifth-highest grossing film in domestic box office history after 15 weeks in theaters, both domestically and internationally.
Maverick has made $740 million abroad and $1.44 billion globally, while Black Panther has made $674 million abroad and $1.347 billion globally.
This accomplishment comes less than two months after Top Gun: Maverick, the wildly popular sequel, eclipsed #Titanic as the highest-grossing Paramount film in history, breaking the previous record.
