Agbolade Agbolahan has been remanded in custody by a Federal High Court in Lagos State for allegedly accessing the Facebook account of Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan, the Oniru of Iruland, and robbing a professor of N500,000.
After his arraignment before the court, Justice Ambrose Lewis-Allagoa ruled that he should be kept on detention.
The defendant entered a plea of not guilty to the accusations made against him by the Ikoyi, Lagos, Police Special Fraud Unit.
Two counts that have to do with hacking and obtaining under false pretenses are brought against Agbolahan.
Slyvester Azubuike, the police prosecutor, testified in court that the defendant broke into the Facebook account some time in April 2022.
Azubuike said he used the account to defraud a professor, Adesoji Adelaja, of the sum of N500,000.
According to him, the offences are contrary to sections 22(2)(b)(ii) and 22(3) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention Etc) Act, 2015.
Following his plea of not guilty, the prosecutor asked for a trial date, and urged the court to remand Agbolahan in prison.
Lewis-Allagoa adjourned the matter for hearing of the bail application and ordered the remand of the defendant.
