On June 29, 2022, a former police officer was detained for impersonating police officers immediately after attending a TV interview while dressed in full gear.


While watching a live interview on Inooro TV, Monica Wamaitha Gitau was taken into custody.


The suspect retired from the Administration Police in 2011. She is running for the Nairobi Women Representative seat on the Usawa Party ticket.


She persisted in acting like a legitimate police officer, even appearing for media interviews while donning a complete police uniform in Persian blue.


After receiving a tip that a female interviewee was donning a police uniform, the policemen who detained Gitau promptly set out to corroborate their suspicions.

“Stapol Kilimani and team embarked on a fact-finding mission to the studios located along Maalim Juma road Dennis Prit road and ambushed the suspect who was still in the same regalia,” the Police report stated.

Confirming the arrest, Kilimani OCPD Andrew Mbogo said they had launched investigations and that more information would be released later.

He stated that it was against the law to be retired and still wear a police uniform.
