I didn’t offer APC delegates money, Tunde Bakare says after zero votes

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Citadel Global Church is pleased with his performance in the APC presidential primary, which ended on Wednesday.


Bakare received no votes in the primary, which was won by Bola Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos.


In response to the backlash that has accompanied his initial performance, the clergyman declared in a statement that he was pleased that he had passed the character test.

He said: I am happy that I have passed the test of character by not paying any delegate.

“I passed the test of courage, by speaking the truth in the midst of wolves and the test of conviction by standing true to my beliefs. Those who will make a difference must be different.”

Bakare was not the only one who got zero votes. Others who did are Senator Rochas Okorocha, Ikeobasi Mokhelu and oil tycoon Tein Jack-Rich.

The cleric, who was President Muhammadu Buhari’s running mate in 2011 under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), had said he was confident he would clinch the APC presidential ticket because he had God-factor and grace. He noted that he only reached out to APC delegates via SMS.
