The celebrities won the best collaboration category for their song "Essence" at the Awards, which were presented on Sunday, July 26, 2022 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
With the victory, Wizkid and "Essence" became the first African and Nigerian artists to get an award outside of the Best International Acts category, and "Essence" becomes the first African song to win a BET Award.
However, Tems took home her first international honors in the categories of "Best International Act" and "Best Collaboration" from Essence (Wizkid & Justin Bieber).
Wizkid has been one of the primary acts driving the global Afrobeats movement over the past ten years, thus it only makes sense that he would be the featured artist.
