2 underaged herders have been arrested by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, for flouting the government’s directive on open grazing in the state.
The six-year-old herders were arrested for harassing a septuagenarian in Kajola area of Akure South Local Government area of Ondo State after leading their cows into her farm.
It was gathered that the little herders identified as Audu Ibrahim and Musa Ibrahim who are twins, threatened the 70-year-old farmer, Mrs Victoria Ajayi with a cutlass.
According to the septuagenarian, she was inside her room, when her grandson informed her that cows have invaded their farm.
“As I was cautioning the children to move the cows out of my farm, one of them brought out cutlass and pointed it to my face. It was then that I knew I was in big trouble.
“I quickly called my grandson and went inside and shut my door. They were there for hours as I watched the cows eat my vegetables and destroy my pepper and also watched how they dug my heaps of yams with their legs and ate my long awaited ready-to-be harvested yams.
“I quickly reached for my drugs because I have been managing high blood pressure for some time. I quickly took my boy and went out through the back door where they could not see me because I never knew their next move as we were alone in the house.”
Narrating that when she sensed danger, she left the house through the back door and went to report the incident at Amotekun’s office after which some of the corps’ operatives followed her and subsequently arrested the two young herders.
On his part, the 52-year-old father of the twins, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa, from Kastina State who regretted his action, said it was a mistake on his part for allowing the children to graze on their own.
