Tanzanians in their thousands are signing a petition to have Diamond Platnumz removed from BET ‘s 2021 nomination list.
The singer who was nominated in the Best International Act category might not get to receive the honour after a his countrymen launched a campaign to have him yanked off the list.
Over 17,000 Tanzanians have signed the petition asking Diamond to be disqualified since it launched on Twitter.
The petitioners accused Diamond of ‘actively and publicly supporting deceased Magufuli’s regime’, but remaining silent when fellow Tanzanian artists were imprisoned and abducted in 2017-2018 over video clips deemed obscene by the authorities. Over 17,000 people have signed the petition.
Diamond Platnumz was was nominated in the best international act category alongside other African heavyweights.
