BAPS director Robert Townsend captioned;

REMEMBERING NATALIE My heart is aching,my breathing has been heavy as I learned this morning of the passing of my friend Natalie Desselle-Reid. I directed her in BAPS,her first leading role in Hollywood. So here’s the memory, I couldn’t find anybody that I thought had the charisma and would create the comedy chemistry, I wanted to star opposite @halleberry . I was really stuck,then Faizon says there’s a girl in my acting class, that you should meet. I met her at his house and we do a two hour improv and she’s absolutely brilliant with her innocent country charm. I call the studio and tell them that I found the perfect girl but she has no credits. The studio thinks it’s a waste of time,I still bring her in for my callbacks, as I walk in she’s in the waiting area with half of the biggest Black actresses in Hollywood. I see her looking nervous and shaking. I pull her outside and she says “I can’t do this!! I know all these actresses from movies and television, they ain’t gonna want me“ I tell her to relax and that she’s got this. When she finally comes into the room, packed with executives,she walks in wobbly with a big warm smile and her country drawl “ Hi y’all”.Halle saw she was nervous and jumped up from the couch and hugged her so tightly to comfort her and then the hand of God showed up, their chemistry was unbelievable. She was cast on the spot! When you make a movie with someone you become family for a little bit of time… And hopefully you’ll create some amazing work with that family that will live on forever... well Natalie was part of the dynamic duo that has made “BAPS”a classic that will live on forever.... you will be missed talented funny lady... but thankfully we will always get to see you as your work lives on..... 12h ava's profile picture ava Verified “When you make a movie with someone, you become family for a little bit of time.” Bless all the families that got to work with her over the years and her family at home during this very sad time. Thank you for sharing. πŸ™πŸΎ 11h __dulceria__'s profile picture __dulceria__ I'm so heartbroken. The bathroom scene always reminds me of Lucy and Ethel. They were perfect together and pushed each other to be better. She played the hopeless romantic and ride or die friend. Her acting and comedic timing were incredible. Thank you for believing in her. We owe you so much! I hope when God welcomes her into heaven he sees her and says LIVING LARGE AND TAKING CHARGE!!!
