Luka ModriΔ has extended his stay at Real Madrid until 2022, destroying all hopes of a potential return to the Tottenham Hotspurs.
Modric is free to negotiate with any team on January 1st, but the Croatian midfielder has admitted he is happy in Spain.
Madrid's Marca reported on Saturday night that the Croatian international had reached an agreement in principle to extend his current contract, which expires in June 2021.
The 35-year-old will renew his contract for another year until June 30, 2022
The new agreement will extend his stay in the Spanish capital to 10 years after he joined Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 for £ 30 million.
During his eight-and-a-half years in the Spanish capital, Modric has won four Champions League titles, two LaLiga titles and a Ballon’Or.
Last month Modric said he wanted to end his career at the club.
He said: “I feel good, I feel strong, and I still have plenty of football in my legs and strengths to continue, but let’s see what happens in the future.
“I’ve said many times and I’ll say it again, I’m very happy at Madrid and I’d love to end my career here, but let’s see what happens.
“Who wouldn’t want to end their career at Real Madrid? But it depends on a lot of things. But there is no-one who’d be happier than me to continue at Real Madrid.”
