Errol Spence Jr retained the WBC and IBF light heavyweight titles with a unanimous victory against Danny Garcia early Sunday, in his first fight since a car accident that nearly ruined his boxing career. Two referees scored 116-112 for Spence and the other 117-111 at the home of the Dallas Cowboys NFL franchise. It was the Texan’s third title defense on the home turf and came 14 months after he survived a high-speed crash near downtown Dallas.
The fall in October 2019 came a month after an exciting split decision victory over Shawn Porter in Los Angeles. Spence (27-0, 21 by knockout) defeated Garcia (36-3, 21 by knockout) for the third time in a row, whose three defeats came in the last six fights. Garcia tried to jump late, landing near the end of the 11th round which caused Spence to ask for his corner just as it rang when Garcia closed yet. With the swollen right eye and nose of Garcia - the last after a small cut in the early rounds - the Philadelphia fighter tried to keep the momentum in the final round, but Spence measured himself as both fighters tried to deliver the final big blow before the last bell. But Spence has done enough to retain the title in front of 16,102 fans after a horrific crash last year. π COMMENTS π ☝️πππ✍️π€³ DROP YOUR OPINIONS
