When it comes to the Smith family and how they raise their children, many people have had their own opinions as it pertains to their choices. The Smiths have often spoken about how they’ve raised their children to be free thinkers, and even recently have shown some regrets on how they’ve raised Willow and Jaden. Will Smith did an interview with BBC interviewer A. Dot and Willow and Jaden’s “freedom of expression” was brought up. The interviewer asked him if it was something that they “consciously encouraged them to have,” and Will jokingly replied that he thinks they perhaps may have made a mistake. “I think we might have gone too far,” he expressed. “Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything.
So as a parent it’s scary, it’s really terrifying — but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn’t concern himself with what people think.” Perhaps they might have because wife Jada Pinkett Smith shared a moment when their daughter Willow got honest with her about watching adult films for the first time. The family is known to be open and honest amongst one another, but sometimes too much honesty might lead to an awkward moment. Willow admitted to her mother on an episode of their Red Table Talk that she was “around 11” when she first discovered it online. “All my girlfriends were like, ‘Oh, you should [watch],’” she said to her mother during the episode. The “Madagascar” actress began to share the moment she recalled the discovery. “I remember the first time I went on Willow’s Tumblr, she was 10 or 11,” the actress said. “She was very matter of fact, she said, ‘I’m going to my Tumblr page but as we’re going to the Tumblr page you’re going to see a lot of stuff. This has nothing to do with me.’ So she’s just scrolling, scrolling.
And when I tell you I saw some of the most hardcore pornography on Tumblr…” Willow then interrupts saying that it was not hardcore, but her mother continues. “Listen, it was hardcore for you to be seeing that […] at 11 years old. I was profoundly disturbed.” Willow explains to them that she was grateful to be able to have parents to share things with although she was at such a young age. “The thing that I will say though is that because I had you and daddy to actually have real conversations with,” the “Whip My Hair” singer added, “that stuff didn’t affect me because I had a connection with people I could talk to about it. And I knew what the reality was.”
