On Instagram, Beyoncé shared that the film is meant to "celebrate the breadth and beauty of black ancestry", and acknowledged that its release takes on new meaning in today's climate. Beyoncé herself, who wrote, directed and produced the film, appears in an extraordinary selection of spectacular costumes, culminating in explosive dance sequences.
