Richard Mofe-Damijo has made it clear on social media that rape should not be swept under the carpet, rather victims of such unholy act should say it loud.
Mofe-Damijo said Nigerian women are beginning to find their voices, to revolt against their abusers, and painstakingly telling their stories.
As for the men, who claim they are being accused wrongly, the talented thespian said “no matter how powerful you are, if you are accused of a crime, all you need to do is fight LEGALLY to prove your innocence and not resort to cheap theatrics that further abuse the victim.”
"Rape has been made a sacred word, like, “HUSH, CHILD, DON’T EVER SAY YOU WERE **whispers** raped. Rape is a very delicate issue but not a sacred word. Like MURDER, the word RAPE has to be said out loud. Really Really LOUD!!!
Loud enough to shock the beast who rapes, Loud enough to shock the apologist who rationalise the whys & ifs, Loud enough to shock the enablers & maybe put them to shame. I say maybe, because it is tough to shame a shameless person who sees nothing wrong in dehumanising another.
They say, “there is a high spike in rapes in Nigeria” as police have confirmed nearly 800 reported rape cases in 3months, but I say, No! It is not a spike, it is the start of a revolution by women, against their abusers, a revolution against patriarchal entitlements with the support for victims heightening, women are finding their voices, they are speaking up, and they are painstakingly telling their stories, which is why everything within me revolts against victim gagging, intimidation and abuse of power.
I don’t care how highly placed or powerful you are, if you are accused of a crime (even wrongly), all you need to do is fight LEGALLY to prove your innocence and not resort to cheap theatrics that further abuse the victim.
Brutal or coerced, RAPE is dark! RAPE is evil and RAPE must never be swept under the carpet. Victim shaming must stop as should false accusations and @PoliceNG must stop playing the role of hitmen to the highest bidders.
To all RAPISTS, may you meet your waterloo and to the survivors and family of the victims, my heart is with you and I stand to fight against this evil -RAPE- with you." He wrote on Twitter.
