J. Cole dropped a new song, “Snow on Tha Bluff” in which he took shots at someone whose timeline apparently upset him badly.
“She mad at the celebrities, low key I be thinkin’ she talking bout me,” he raps, and later adds, “But shit, it’s something about the queen tone that’s bothering me.”
It wasn’t long before folks pieced things together and realised he was referencing rapper Noname, who called out big name rappers for their silence following the murder of George Floyd.
And Noname acknowledged the diss. She tweeted: “QUEEN TONE!!!!!!”
While she seems to be taking this kindly, many black women are thoroughly displeased, and have since taken to their timelines to call out J. Cole.

Just last year Noname was advocating Black entrepreneurship/capitalism. She was called in (and out, tbh) and started to do the work herself. She wasn’t born w/the politics she has now. She did the same work others can do.— Rebel Scum (@awkward_duck) June 17, 2020
Noname was just minding her Communist business and then come a biracial😒— Thicc Harington (@MusingsHistory) June 17, 2020
Jermaine wilding. We saw Noname do the work in real time to inform herself on these issues. Vividly remember her owning up to how wrong she was about capitalism after twitter lit her ass up for going to bat for it. Cole could've been informing himself too. https://t.co/aIIua8wWy5— Aye throw that Boyz II Men on (@DragonflyJonez) June 17, 2020
not j. cole crying about noname not being a mindreader and not going out of her way to preemptively educate random niggas who dont even care enough to reach out or look at the books she literally recommends on her twitter. what are Black women to y'all exactly https://t.co/ERYHSMMjkx— disney was a mistake except for Lilo & Stitch (@aiukliAfrika) June 17, 2020
j cole calling noname smarter than him as a compliment is negated by the fact that he follows it up by demanding personal intellectual labor from her and literally demands to be treated like a child.— disney was a mistake except for Lilo & Stitch (@aiukliAfrika) June 17, 2020
NoName literally stopped doing live performances because she refused to keep doing shows for primarily white audiences. She started a whole book club to educate people on social issues. I can’t help but to stan.— Maya Angelique👑 (@moneyymaya) June 17, 2020
J. Cole really dropped an entire track to tone police Noname. Like she ain’t literally start a book club so you niggas could get educated. Some of these rappers really ain’t the ideological leaders you think they are.

Because a human being that is happy on his/her own will never settle to be miserable with someone else. When you find happiness on your own then you will be able to spread it and share it with someone else. ... CRITIC ALSO 🖋️ spill TEA ☕ Easy on Shade 💣
