Boity shared the exciting news on social media saying in part; “I didn’t know how much this music journey had in store for me! Cheers to taking that leap of faith! I look forward to this new venture with @defjamafrica and the incredible opportunities it will bring!”
In an announcement from Universal Music Group the new label is dedicated to representing “the best hip-hop, Afrobeats and trap talent in Africa, and will follow the blueprint of the iconic Def Jam Recordings label.”
The label will initially be based in South Africa and Nigeria but will sign artists from across the continent and headed by the managing director of Universal Music Sub-Saharan Africa & South Africa, Sipho Dlamini.
In addition to the rappers, the label has also signed an impressive list of African artists who have previously released music under Universal Music Group. These artists include Cassper Nyovest, Tshego, Ricky Tyler, Tellaman, Nigeria’s Larry Gaaga, and Vector.
This comes two months after Nasty C signed with the label.
Boity and Nadia Nakai sign to Def Jam Africa. Congratulations!
