Rosa Parks Honored With Life-Size Statue In Montgomery, Alabama

A life-size statue honoring civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks was unveiled in Montgomery, Alabama.
The unveiling ceremony took place on December 1, the 64th anniversary of her historic refusal to give up her seat on a public bus to a white man. Her arrest on December 1, 1955, sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott.
Mayor Steven Reed, the first African American mayor of Montgomery, and Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey led the unveiling.
Reed stated, “This depiction will inspire future generations to make the pilgrimage to our city, to push toward the path of righteousness, strength, courage, and equality.”
The Montgomery County Commission shared photos and video from the ceremony on social media with the caption:


64 years ago, one woman took a courageous stance for what was right. Today, we unveiled a life-size statue in her honor.
