Disney has released the first official trailer for its highly anticipated live-action remake of Mulan. The video offers us a glimpse at the the upcoming movie that is set in China’s Han dynasty. Directed by Niki Caro, the film stars Chinese-American actress Liu Yifei as the defiant warrior Hua Mulan, who disguises herself as a man to enlist herself in the Imperial Army in place of her sickly father, Hua Zhou (played by Tzi Ma).
The trailer features a remake of the iconic scene from Disney’s 1998 animation, where Mulan gets all dressed up to meet the matchmaker as arranged by her family. “Yes, I will bring honor to us all,” Liu’s Mulan utters the famous line. Later on in the clip, we’re given a sneak peek at some of the epic war scenes where the army battles against the Northern Invaders that are attacking China.

Mulan will also see Hong Kong actor Donnie Yen (Ip Man, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) playing the role of Commander Tung, Gong Li as a new villain called Xian Lang, Jet Li as the Emperor, and newcomer Yoson An as Mulan’s love interest, Cheng Honghui.
Mulan’s beloved sidekick, the dragon Mushu, will reportedly be replaced by a phoenix in the new movie.
