Bookings Africa boss, Fade Ogunro writes June 12th is the new Democracy Day. This was done to commemorate the democratic election of MKO Abiola on June 12, 1993, in what has been adjudged to be Nigeria's freest and fairest elections. My dad wrote the copy, created the jingle and produced this TV commercial. I remember meeting Kingibe when I was a yung’un during this campaign era, and each time he would give me a crisp £50 note. My dad would take it from me when we got in the car and tell me it was going in the bank towards my education... I was duped!! πMy dad really believed the SDP party would be the change Nigerians were hoping for. Since Abiola’s suspicious death in 98, my dad worked on political advertising campaigns for Tinubu, Fashola, Fayemi... and a few more. He always said, he never wanted to be a politician but he knew he had a gift to influence their narrative. He was always optimistic that Nigeria would become one of the greatest nations in the world. I don’t know what fueled his auspicious belief but it was contagious and part of the reason I moved to Nigeria in 2010. Personally it’s hard to celebrate Democracy Day, when we are still suffering from the same problems my dad addressed in this commercial 26 years ago. I’m sure my dad and MKO are having an interesting conversation about Nigeria right now! π³π¬ ππ½ @sesandirector @ilovecakes0105 @oluwatimayomikun what do you remember of dad during this campaign? Actually Tim... you were only 1yr old.. so you can sit this one out. ❤️ #NoWork #NoHouse #NoLight #SmallMoney #TransportProblems #SchoolSucks #HospitalNoJobs #ITireForLifeO #Palava #SameProblems #DifferentDay #DemocracyDay
