Ex-Miss Teen SA Phuti Khomo allegedly owes R210K in unpaid rent

Ex-Miss Teen South Africa Phuti Khomo’s landlord has reportedly taken her to court in a bid to get R210 000 in unpaid rent

The amount was allegedly accumulated over seven months. 

According to SowetanLIVE, businesswoman Marli Hoffman has added R25 000 for utilities to the amount outstanding bill.

Phuti reportedly signed a lease with the businesswoman in June 2018 for a three-bedroomed house in Bryanston. The monthly rent was R30 000, plus utilities. 

Marli also intends suing the former Muvhango actress for R60 000 for the legal fees she incurred

She says Phuti had problems paying the rent on time and gave her a 50% discount in the first month after the actress complained that she was living on a building site.

Some of the houses on the new estate were reportedly still being completed when Phuti signed the lease. 

 

Marli claim Phuti stopped her monthly rent payments completely from December. 

“[Whenever] it was time to pay rent she would complain about security or the gate remote,” she told the publication.

Phuti has hit back at the “baseless” claims. She says she signed the lease as a favour to a close friend

“Regrettably, he could not keep up with lease agreement payments and he eventually evacuated the leased premise after my lawyers engaged Marli’s lawyers in a brief discussion regarding the matter,” she said.  

The 35-year-old says she made a “bad decision” and she is trying to resolve the matter as best she can. 

She is allegedly suing her friend in a bid to recoup the money owed. 

“I’m not going to run away and our lawyers were corresponding.”

Phuti will reportedly sue Marli in return, for “reputational damage”. 

“I don’t understand her end-game by taking me to the papers,” she added.
