AKA’s mother Lynn Forbes has opened up about her relationship with her son’s girlfriend in a recent interview.
“We will always be family,” she told Drum magazine.
Zinhle relationship with Lynn has been celebrated as an example that it is possible to have a great relationship with your in-laws.
In 2016, AKA famously called out his then ex-girlfriend for spending too much time with his mother even though they had broken up.
“Why are there pictures of myself and my mother in her house? And why does she make a point of showing it on TV?” the rapper ranted on Twitter.

He added in another since deleted tweet: “Why are there so many pictures of my mother on Instagram…. And none of her own mother? It’s weird. Let go. Please.”
It seems AKA was upset that Lynn was not spending time with his then-girlfriend Bonang Matheba – who Zinhle accused of being the other woman in their relationship.
Lynn replied to her son’s rant, telling him not to bash her for being a “decent human being”.
“I love all my children and my granddaughter [Kairo] with my whole heart and that includes Zinhle. This is how it is and this is how it will be… I have asked to meet Bonang on many occasions and that offer still stands… I am still waiting…” she wrote on Twitter.

She told Drum that Zinhle will be in her life regardless of what happened between her and AKA.
“Zinhle and I are friends and confidantes… She’s a very, very special person in my life and even if Kiernan and Kairo weren’t in the picture, she would still be in my life Even if they don’t stay together in the future, that’s okay. Life happens. We will always be family,” she told the publication.
Lynn added that she is happy
“When my kids are happy, I’m happy. I’m happy for them as a couple, I’m happy for us as a family because we all get along so well and I’m happy for Kairo because who wouldn’t want that?”
