Janet Jackson is the latest of many celebrities who have taken to social media on Monday (April 29) to mourn the death of John Singleton. Singleton directed the 1993 drama Poetic Justice, which starred Jackson and Tupac Shakur, marking the actress and singer’s first-ever film.
“You gave me my first movie role, my first Oscar nomination and so much more,” she wrote alongside a series of sweet throwback photos of the pair. “Thank you for all you have given to the world through your work and all you have done for Black culture, women and young filmmakers. I will miss you John. Keeping your family in my prayers.”
Singleton had gone to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles on April 17 seeking medical care and was there when he suffered a stroke in the intensive care unit, his family explained. On Monday, they announced he would be removed from life support.
