Celtics’ Jaylen Brown tweeted when he was a 17-year-old student at Wheeler High School in Marietta, Georgia.
“My teacher said she will look me up in the Cobb County jail in five years. Wow,” Brown tweeted on April 28, 2014.Sunday was the 5-year anniversary of that tweet, which many noticed and commented on and those messages went viral.
“Make sure she knows what channel you’re on today!!” someone tweeted.
“You should go show her your pay check stub,” another person suggested.
“Maybe she is the one locked up,” another tweeted.
Brown was asked what he thought about his old message going viral, and he said it’s an incident that he doesn’t want to relive. He explained that his family and the school dealt with the teacher in 2014, and he’s moved on from it “emotionally and spiritually.”
“Sometimes because the education system is poor, especially in Georgia, sometimes teachers have too many kids and not enough help,” he stated. “I’m not blaming the one teacher.”
“If it’s used as an example to motivate kids all around the world, especially growing up in a public school in the metro Atlanta area [that’s good]. “Everything isn’t always cut and dry. It’s tough, it’s tough on both sides. Teachers, students as well, to learn in an environment and also teach in an environment with 30-something kids in one class. That’s hard.”
